Visit by Malaysian Ministry of Health to City-St George’s University of London

UM-ADT was delighted to participate in a high level visit by the Malaysian Ministry of Health to City-St George’s University of London (CGSUL) on 14 April 2025. The Director General of Ministry of Health, Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan visited CSGUL at the Medical campus in Tooting, London accompanied by Dr Akhmal Yusof from Clinical Research Malaysia.They met with Dr Sionade Robinson, Vice-President (Enterprise, Engagement and Employability), who leads on enhancing and developing and strategic relationships with external partners and international organisations.
In attendance were Professor Sanjeev Krishna (Emeritus Professor of Molecular Parasitology and Medicine), Dr Yolanda Augustin (Clinical Oncologist and Global Oncology Lead), Dr Henry Staines (Senior Lecturer Global Health and Diagnostics Lead), Dr Ambalika Batra (Head of Innovation) , Dr Mark Cranmer (Director of Research and Innovation Services) and teams. Professor Ivy Chung (Clinical Pharmacology and UM-ADT Lead) represented Universiti Malaya.
MOH presented their exciting work on affordable Hepatitis C drug development as well as Malaysia’s exciting clinical trial capacity including for First-in-Human Phase 1 studies that have made it a leader in ASEAN for clinical trials. The CSGUL team shared exciting partnerships with Malaysian partners including Universiti Malaya and the Ministry of Health on growing Malaysia as a diagnostic and pandemic preparedness hub for point-of-care diagnostics.
A current project includes developing accurate and affordable point-of-care diagnostics for a number of neglected diseases including a 4-in-1 test for dengue, monkey malaria, melioidosis and leptospirosis and a predictive biomarker test for severe dengue. The CSGUL team is also working on opportunities to expand clinical studies at CSGUL to Malaysia, as well as diagnostic industry partnerships to Malaysia.
