The Universiti Malaya Affordable Diagnostics & Therapeutics (UMADT) participated in Sambutan Hari Kanser Sedunia 2026 held on 4 February 2026, organised by Persatuan Kanser Kebangsaan Malaysia and officiated by Dzulkefly Ahmad, Malaysia’s Minister of Health.
Held in conjunction with World Cancer Day, the event brought together policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, civil society organisations, and members of the public to strengthen national efforts in cancer awareness and care.
At its information booth, UMADT highlighted ongoing investigator-led clinical trials conducted under UMADT and the International Affordable Diagnostics & Therapeutics Alliance (IA-DATA). These trials explore drug repurposing strategies aimed at improving accessibility and outcomes in cancer treatment.
Featured studies included:
- NeART-M, focusing on bowel cancer
- NeART-CIN, focusing on pre-cervical cancer
Both trials are examining the potential role of oral artesunate, a well-established antimalarial medicine, when used alongside standard care.
In addition to sharing research updates, UMADT engaged with stakeholders on effective public communication strategies and approaches to strengthening cancer awareness. Insights from these exchanges will inform ongoing improvements in UMADT’s outreach and engagement efforts.
