UMADT Strengthens Diagnostic & Innovation Capacity at City St George’s, University of London

London, United Kingdom | 4 November 2025 — As part of its ongoing international collaborations, Universiti Malaya Affordable Diagnostics and Therapeutics (UMADT) undertook a visit to its collaborator, City St George’s, University of London, focused on scientist training, technology transfer, and innovation partnerships.
SME Innovation Voucher Networking Event
In addition, UMADT and International Affordable Diagnostics & Therapeutics Alliance (IA-DATA) joined the SME Innovation Voucher Networking Event at City St George’s, connecting with innovators and partners working across academia and industry.
The session highlighted City St George’s Technology Transfer Office as a Health Innovation Nexus—a vibrant ecosystem offering laboratory and office space, consultancy and research support, and professional networks to accelerate health innovation.
Engaging pitches and discussions showcased collaboration opportunities through Innovate UK, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, and specialised workshops in CE marking, regulation, femtech, and digital health, generating ideas for future partnerships across Malaysia and ASEAN.
Technology Transfer and Commercialisation Discussions
The UMADT team also met with the Technology Transfer Office at City St George’s, University of London for in-depth discussions on strengthening innovation, sustainability, and commercialisation pathways.

How accelerator programmes support early-stage innovators in beginning their commercialisation and intellectual property (IP) journeys
Challenges in sustaining long-term innovation impact
The value of advisors and living labs in guiding, validating, and scaling entrepreneurial initiatives
Hands-On LFA Biomarker Training
During the visit, the UMADT team participated in a hands-on Lateral Flow Assay (LFA) biomarker training session, gaining practical experience in LFA design, biomarker evaluation, and assay development.
This training lays an important foundation for the upcoming development of UMADT’s own diagnostic kit prototypes, supporting efforts to advance affordable, accessible, and high-quality diagnostics for Malaysia and the region.
