South-South Diagnostic Alliance Welcomes Mediven as Industry Partner Through MoU

By SSDxA

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – A new chapter in regional health collaboration began today with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the South-South Diagnostic Alliance (SSDxA), Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM), and Medical Innovation Ventures Sdn Bhd (Mediven), a Malaysian diagnostics manufacturer specialising in rapid and molecular testing solutions.

This MoU officially establishes Mediven as an industry partner of the SSDxA, strengthening the Alliance’s growing ecosystem of collaborators. The partnership brings together three organisations with a shared goal: to expand access to reliable, affordable diagnostics across endemic countries, starting with better tools to detect dengue.

The agreement sets out a joint commitment to strengthen regionally driven innovation by developing an alternative economic framework that supports businesses producing diagnostic solutions tailored to the needs of the Global South.

This partnership brings together complementary strengths: SSDxA’s mandate to advance regionally driven diagnostic innovation, CRM’s research expertise and clinical networks, and Mediven’s technical capability in developing and manufacturing diagnostic technologies locally. Together, the parties will work to accelerate affordable, sustainable, and context-appropriate diagnostics for endemic countries.

The partnership will focus on several key areas:

  • Enhancing access to dengue diagnostics by supporting innovation aligned with the public health priorities of endemic regions.
  • Facilitating knowledge transfer to strengthen sustainable local manufacturing.
  • Collaborating on product development pathways to ensure diagnostics are affordable, scalable, and responsive to real-world needs.
  • Supporting the growth of a regional industrial ecosystem grounded in local leadership, equitable collaboration, and shared public health goals.

Jean-Michel Piedagnel, Director of SSDxA, welcomed the partnership as a meaningful step toward strengthening diagnostic sovereignty across the Global South. “This collaboration with Mediven represents an important move toward ensuring that diagnostic innovation is not only accessible and affordable, but also driven by regional expertise,” he said.

The MoU marks another milestone in the strengthening of South-South cooperation in health innovation and sets the stage for future partnerships aimed at expanding access to essential diagnostics across endemic countries.
