Empowering Endemic Countries in the Global South to Lead Clinical Research" at Academy of Medical Science, London

By IA-DATA

IA-DATA was proud to co-organise an impactful evening with Malaysia’s Director General of Health – Ministry Of Health, Malaysia (KKM), Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, on the theme “Empowering Endemic Countries in the Global South to Lead Clinical Research”.
Held at the Academy of Medical Sciences London, the event brought together researchers, policymakers, and global health leaders to highlight the crucial role endemic countries play in advancing clinical research that is locally informed and globally relevant.
It was an honour to have Datuk Dr Radzi share Malaysia’s incredible journey to develop ravidasvir, an affordable treatment for Hepatitis C. At the time, this brought the cost of treatment down from USD60,000 to less than USD500, enabling access to many patients in the public sector. Malaysia has implemented a further study to safely reduce the duration of treatment in order to improve patient compliance, with encouraging results.
This achievement highlighted the importance of inclusive, data-driven solutions in global health — that begin by supporting leadership and innovation in endemic countries in the Global South.
CEO of Clinical Research Malaysia Akhmal Yusof also spoke about Malaysia’s impact in terms of building research capacity to become the leading clinical trial destination in ASEAN.
