IA-DATA

About Us

The International Affordable Diagnostics & Therapeutics Alliance (IA-DATA) is a collaborative, mission-driven initiative committed to transforming access to life-saving diagnostics and therapeutics across the Global South, ASEAN region, and countries affiliated with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

We foster strong partnerships across government, academia, responsible industry, and civil society to address some of the most pressing health challenges of our time–particularly neglected diseases, cancer, and rare diseases. Through innovation, local capacity-building, and equitable access strategies, IA-DATA works to ensure that affordable, high-quality solutions reach the communities that need them most.

Affordable Diagnostics

We aim to revolutionise point-of-care tests by developing accessible, reliable, and locally relevant diagnostics.
  • Technology Transfer for Manufacturing: Supporting local production of point-of-care tests for dengue, as well as a 4-in-1 diagnostic test for dengue, Plasmodium knowlesi, leptospirosis, and melioidosis.
  • Reagent Library Development: Building a regionally tailored repository of diagnostic reagents to support local healthcare needs.
  • Precision Medicine Tools: Identifying and clinically validating novel biomarkers, such as those for severe dengue, to enable early and accurate diagnosis.
  • Public Health Deployment: Facilitating the clinical rollout of affordable diagnostics in public healthcare systems, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

Affordable Therapeutics:
Drug Repurposing

IA-DATA is positioning Malaysia as a regional hub for drug repurposing–an innovative approach to accelerating treatment development by finding new uses for existing drugs.
  • Focus Areas: Cancer (colorectal, cervical, nasopharyngeal), acute myeloid leukemia, infectious diseases, inflammation, and rare diseases.
  • Clinical Trials & Manufacturing: Conducting local clinical validation and enabling domestic production of repurposed medicines to ensure affordability and accessibility.

  • Global Collaboration: Partnering with the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi) to lead drug repurposing programmes, particularly the Dengue Alliance, for impactful, scalable solutions.

Affordable Therapeutics:
Plant Molecular Farming

We are spearheading the development of a robust plant molecular farming platform in Malaysia to produce next-generation therapies and diagnostic tools.
  • Technology Transfer: Bringing advanced molecular farming techniques from leading institutions such as CSGUL and CADT to Malaysian biotech and research entities.
  • Facility Development: Establishing Malaysia’s first integrated molecular farming facility focused on cancer immunotherapies, vaccines, and diagnostic reagent production.
  • Biotech Pipeline: Developing scalable, plant-based manufacturing processes for targeted therapies and biologics, tailored to regional health priorities.
